Saratoga Springs, New York, has long drawn visitors with its bubbling mineral springs, historic charm, and a calendar full of events that give the town a lively edge. Known as “The Spa City,” Saratoga first gained fame in the 19th century for its naturally carbonated waters, believed to have healing properties. Today, guests can still sample water from more than a dozen public springs scattered around town or soak in a mineral bath at the Roosevelt Baths & Spa, part of the Saratoga Spa State Park complex.

Horse racing has deep roots in Saratoga, home to the Saratoga Race Course, one of the oldest active thoroughbred tracks in the country. Every summer, the city transforms as fans, families, and jockeys converge for the racing season, which began in 1863. The atmosphere around the track is festive and nostalgic, with traditions like picnics in the paddock, grandstand cheers, and a peek into the elegant fashions worn by racegoers. The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame, just steps away, offers a behind-the-scenes look at the sport’s legends.

Downtown Saratoga Springs is known for its walkable streets, filled with locally owned boutiques, cafés, and bookstores. Broadway, the town’s main avenue, has retained its historic architecture while embracing new restaurants and galleries. At night, venues like Caffè Lena, recognized as the oldest continuously operating folk music club in the U.S., host live performances, continuing a tradition that once included early gigs by Bob Dylan and Ani DiFranco.
